Cook烹制食物

When talking generally gas ring(firf) about preparing meals, burner [NAmE) use the verb to cook.

泛指烹调食物用动词c.ook:

                   Do you like cooking?

你喜欢做饭吗?

                   She still hasn't learned how to cook.

她还没学会做饭。

You can cook food or a meal,

烹制食物或做饭均可用cook:

                   He’s cooking dinner他在做饭。

                   Add the onion and cook gently

(=cook the onion gently) for five minutes. 加上洋葱用文火煮五分钟。 or the meal can cook.

饭菜在烧煮中亦可用cook:

                   Dinner won^ be long. Ifs cooking now.

快开饭了。现在正在做饭。

                   Add the meat and let it cook for ten minutes. 加上肉煮十分钟。

There are different verbs for particular ways of cooking: with water, oil or in dry heat.

Boil煮沸烧开

You can boil vegetables, eggs, rice, etc. by covering them with water and heating to the boiling point (=i〇〇°C).

                   boiiedpotatoes/rice 煮熟的土豆/米饭 You can also just boil the water,

烧开水亦可用boil:

                   Vm boiling the water for the pasta now.

or the vegetables, the water or (in British English) the container can boil.

If you bring something to the boil (Srf) / a boil {NAm^) you heat it until it boils; you can then simmer it or let it simmer by letting it boil gently for a period of time.

把东M加热M沸点说 bring something to the boil/ aboil,再用文火娘或纯就用simmer:

                   Simmer the carrots in a large pan of water. 用一大锅水文火炖胡萝卜。

                   Bring to the boil and let it simmer for five minutes.烧开后用文火娘五分钟。

Bake供烤;焙

You can bake bread, cakes, potatoes, etc. in the dry heat of an oven or a fire,

在烤箱或火炉上烤面包、蛋糕、土豆等可用bake:

                   He baked a cake for her birthday.

他为她的生日烤了一个蛋糕。

or the bread, cakes, etc. can bake.

面包、蛋糕等在烘烤亦可用bake:

Baking can be used for things that are baked or

the activity of baking them.

Roast

You can roast large pieces of meat, potatoes, etc. by covering the surface of the food with oil in the heat of an oven.
